Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in the performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would put her at least in the eyes of America, into the child prodigy category. But for a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family, these characteristics were a natural. Maureen joined this wonderful haven in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th, 1920. The mother of Maureen, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake of "The Shamrock Rovers," famous Irish soccer squad. Maureen FitzSimons was the daughter of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons complete this wonderful family. Maureen was a fan of rough sports as young and became very adept in them. Her talent for performing was the perfect match for her interest in athletics. In the end, she received almost all of the Feis Awards for acting and dramatic performances within her own country. By age 14 she was admitted into the world-renowned Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
